How Long Does Spray Paint Take To Dry On

CardBoard

Painting surfaces is not only relaxing but with the invention of the paint sprayers, this task has become less tedious and easier. Spray painting usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes to dry. But the drying depends on various factors like the optimal temperature, the surface on which you paint, type of paint used, and ventilation.

Temperature:

The optimal temperature for paint drying is 50 to 90F and the optimal humidity level is less than 85%. If the weather is too cold, then the paint especially oil-based ones would take a lot of time to dry. Whereas, if the weather is very hot, then the paint will dry very quickly causing wrinkling and blisters.

Ventilation:

Keeping the paint fully ventilated can speed up the drying process. If you have painted indoors, then open as many windows as you can. It would be best that you switch on multiple fans as well.

Type Of Surface:

Cardboard:

The cardboard can be sprayed and painted as well. But since they are absorbents and can get disintegrated, you should first apply primer and multiple thins layers. If the cardboard boxes are provided with optimal temperature, good ventilation, and easy to dry paint, then it will take about 15 minutes to dry.

Metal:

It is found that the drying time for metal painting is about 36 to 48 hours.

Wood:

Drying time for wood is quite controversial. Some say that it takes a long time for the paint to dry on wood since it has absorbent properties. Whereas others say that it dries up quickly within 10 to 15 minutes.

Conclusion:

Paint on cardboards does dry quickly only if it’s provided with optimal conditions like a good clean surface, quick-drying paint, good temperature, and humidity level, and good ventilation!
